Petra Katanic is a photographer whose work is shaped by a deeply personal history. Born in Serbia, she fled to the Netherlands with her family during the Yugoslav war. This was a period that has left a lasting impact on her life and creative proces. Photography and imagemaking became her way of finding peace, processing her experiences, and building a sense of belonging.
Her work explores the intersection of memory, identity, and constructed realities, often blending surreal elements with stark visual clarity. In 2018, she graduated cum laude from the Fotoacademie in Amsterdam, where she later also worked as a teacher.
Through visual storytelling, Petra aims to evoke emotion, challenge boundaries, and invite reflection on both the present and the future. Her images draw viewers into futuristic worlds that may feel alienating, yet somehow evoke recognition and connection.
